Baseball Postseason Formats

 

Division I & Division II

  • The top 14 teams in Division I and the top 14 teams in Division II qualify for their respected division's playoff
  • The 14 teams participate in two seven-team double-elimination regional tournaments
  • The tournaments' pairings:

    1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13

    2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14

  • Each regional tournament follows the below format

    Game 1: No. 4 vs. No. 13 / No. 3 vs. No. 14

    Game 2: No. 5 vs. No. 12 / No. 6 vs. No. 11

    Game 3: No. 8 vs. No. 9 / No. 7 vs. No. 10

    Game 4: No. 1 vs. game 3 winner / No. 2 vs. game 3 winner

    Game 5: Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner

    Game 6: Game 4 winner vs. Game 5 winner (winner's bracket final)

    Game 7: Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser (loser is eliminated)

    Game 8: Game 5 loser vs. Game 7 winner (loser is eliminated)

    Game 9: Game 4 loser vs. Game 3 loser (loser is eliminated)

    Game 10: Game 8 winner vs. Game 9 winner (loser is eliminated)

    Game 11: Game 6 loser vs. Game 10 winner (loser's bracket final; Loser is eliminated)

    Game 12: Game 6 winner vs. Game 11 winner (if the Game 11 winner wins, then a rematch is held with the winner winning the regional and advancing to the Division Finals)

  • The best of three Finals are held during third week of June
 

 

Division III

  • Top 5 teams qualify for the double-elimination playoffs
  • Game 1: No. 4 plays No. 5
  • Game 2: No. 1 plays the winner of game 1
  • Game 3: No. 2 plays No. 3
  • Game 4: Game 2 winner vs. Game 3 winner (winner's bracket final)
  • Game 5: Game 1 loser vs. Game 3 loser (loser is eliminated)
  • Game 6: Game 5 winner vs. Game 2 loser (loser is eliminated)
  • Game 7: Game 6 winner vs. Game 4 loser (loser's bracket final; loser is eliminated)
  • Game 8: Game 4 winner vs. Game 7 winner (if the Game 7 winner wins, then a rematch is held with the winner winning the championship) - held during the second week of June
