Girls Basketball Postseason Formats

 

 

Division I

  • Top 12 teams qualify for their respective division's postseason tournament
  • In the preliminary round: No. 5 plays No. 12, No. 6 plays No. 11, No. 7 plays 10, and No. 8 plays No. 9 (No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 receive byes)
  • In the quarterfinals: No. 1 plays the winner of the 8/9 preliminary, No. 2 plays the winner of the 7/10 preliminary game, No. 3 plays the winner of the 6/11 preliminary, and No. 4 plays the winner of the 5/12 preliminary
  • In the semifinals the winner of the 1/8/9 game faces the winner of the 4/5/12 game while the winner of the 2/7/10 game faces the winner of the 3/6/11 game
  • Finals are held on either the last Saturday of February or first Saturday of March

 

 

Division II

  • Top 11 teams qualify for their respective division's postseason tournament

  • In the quarterfinals: No. 1 plays the winner of the 8/9 preliminary, No. 2 plays the winner of the 7/10 preliminary game, No. 3 plays No. 6, and No. 4 plays No. 5
  • In the semifinals the winner of the 1/8/9 game faces the winner of the 4/5 game while the winner of the 2/7/10 game faces the winner of the 3/6 game

State

  • 16 teams participate in the State championship tournament; At the end of the divisional championships, the top 16 teams with the highest powerpoint totals qualify for the state tournament
    • Division I regular season league and division tournament wins as well as regular season division championships are worth 1 point
    • Division II regular season league and division tournament wins as well as regular season division championships are worth 0.8 points
    • Division III regular season league and division tournament wins as well as regular season division championships are worth 0.6 points
  • In the preliminary round: No. 1 plays No. 16, No. 2 plays No. 15, No. 3 plays No. 14, No. 4 plays No. 13, No. 5 plays No. 12, No. 6 plays No. 11, No. 7 plays 10 and No. 8 plays No. 9
  • In the quarterfinals the winner of the 1/16 preliminary game plays the winner of the 8/9 preliminary game, The winner of the 2/15 preliminary game plays the winner of the 7/10 preliminary game, The winner of the 3/14 preliminary game plays the winner of the 6/11 preliminary game, and the winner of the 4/13 preliminary game plays the winner of the 5/12 preliminary game
  • In the semifinals the winner of the 1/8/9/16 game faces the winner of the 4/5/12/13 game while the winner of the 2/7/10/15 game faces the winner of the 3/6/11/14 game
  • Finals are held on the second or third weekend of March
